The shower scene from Psycho is not one of the top 10? In which universe?

“The Ring” has several great shock moments. The initial sequence which ends with the girl finding her friend dead in the closet, the fly emerging from the video onto the monitor screen, and Naomi Watts coughing up a medical electrode all have their own unique shivers attached.

And who will ever forget the final shot of Sammara zombie-walking toward the screen….and then crawling out of it?

As for “The Shining”, what about Wendy’s discovery of Jack’s manuscript, the moment when he looks across the bar and says: “Hello, Lloyd!”, or the bathroom scene (even with the “Here’s Johnny!” line defusing the moment).

Quite agree about the Exorcist head-spin, but what about the pea soup projectile vomiting that was a first in film history (certainly the equivalent of the “Alien” exploding chest scene)? What about Regan’s “spider walk” down the stairs? And what about that spooky, near-subliminal face that appears for a fraction of a second every so often?

Just to round things out, how many here remember the sodomy scene in “Deliverance”? That and several others are as creepy as anything from a supernatural film….and they all take place in an all-too-real world.

the only one i like is the movie ”the cell” very very good movie.
for the rest….u all got to see asian thrillermovies as kirei(the pulse), ringu(the japanese version of the ring) or ju on(recommend for nightmares)…… see one of these and than say that these scenes are the scariest in movie history.
oh btw, i like some of the movies listed here (the cell, the ring(prefer the jap version), the shining(read the book dammit! =p)

gotta agree with the poltergiest 2 scene! I’ve always told people that’s not only scary but what a piece of cinematography, and what a performance by every single cast member. blocking, music, and only julian beck could deliver that sort of performance. he probably didn’t even need more than a couple rehearsals either. if you love reverend kane research julian’s earlier theater project, the living theater.

The list is bogus. The ending in the movie Carrie had everyone hitting the ceiling and in Alien when the Lil Guy pops thru John’s stomach had all in attendance barely able to keep it together. In hITCHCOCKS ‘tHE bIRDS” when you see the guy in the back office with his eyes pecked out. Gross.

Seriously? That was your list of the Top Ten scariest movie of all time? That was sad. I waited to be scared in all of them(yawn) yeah. They don’t make them how they use to. I think a good candidate up for considerate would be Dead Silence. That was pretty wicked!
